Hearing Aid Costs

How Much Does Signia MaX Cost?

Signia has not published United States pricing for MaX at any technology level. That is normal in the first weeks after a platform launch, and it means any figure you see quoted online this month is somebody's estimate extrapolated from Signia IX.

Hearing Aid Costs

Signia has not published United States pricing for MaX at any technology level. That is normal in the first weeks after a platform launch, and it means any figure you see quoted online this month is somebody's estimate extrapolated from Signia IX.

We are not going to add another estimate to the pile. What we can do is explain honestly what determines the number, what should and should not be inside it, and how to tell a fair Signia MaX quote from an inflated one — which is more useful than a range we would have to revise.

If you want general figures for what hearing aids cost on the Peninsula while you wait, our guide to hearing aid cost sets out the real bands without brand-specific guesswork.

At a glance

  • Signia has published no US price for MaX at any level, and has not announced a technology-tier structure. Any figure circulating now is an estimate.
  • Technology tier and included professional care move the price more than the brand name does.
  • Published research finds no significant outcome difference between expensive and modest hearing aids once both are fitted and verified properly.
  • Signia IX is well-measured, comes in every style, and gets better value as MaX arrives — a serious option rather than a downgrade.
  • Bring us any Signia MaX quote and we will read it with you at no charge.

Why there is no price yet

Manufacturers set dealer pricing before a launch but rarely publish consumer figures, and independent practices set their own fees on top. With MaX, two further things are unsettled. Signia has not announced a technology-tier structure for the platform — its previous generations sold in 7, 5 and 3 levels, and the tier you buy typically moves the price more than the brand does, but Signia has published nothing for MaX. And the platform launched with a single model, so there is no style-based price spread to describe yet. Until both are public, a specific number would be invented. We would rather tell you that than pretend otherwise.

What actually drives the number

Four things, in roughly this order. First, technology tier — the gap between a top-level and an entry-level device on the same platform is usually larger than the gap between two brands, and it buys you performance in complex, moving environments rather than in quiet conversation. Second, whether the price includes professional care or only hardware; a device is a medical fitting, not a purchase, and the difference in the fee usually reflects how many visits, adjustments and verifications are built in. Third, the technology you actually need, which is a clinical question — the person who spends most evenings in restaurants and the person who mostly watches television at home should not be sold the same device. Fourth, the incidentals: warranty length, loss and damage cover, and what happens in year three when something needs repair.

What should be included in the fee here

When we quote a device, the number covers the fitting appointment, programming to your prescription, real-ear verification with a probe microphone, follow-up visits to fine-tune as you adapt, cleaning and servicing, and the manufacturer warranty. We tell you what is included before you decide, in writing. If a quote you are comparing is meaningfully cheaper, the first question to ask is not "why is this one expensive" but "what has been taken out" — most often it is the follow-up care and the verification, which are precisely the parts that determine whether the device works.

Being early costs something

There is a specific financial argument against buying at launch that nobody selling hearing aids will make for you. A brand-new platform is at its most expensive on day one, has no independent performance data, and is competing against an outgoing platform that is well-measured and about to get cheaper. Signia IX has been tested by HearAdvisor and scored well — 4.4 out of 5 for the Pure Charge&Go BCT IX, top five percent of everything tested for the Active Pro IX — and it comes in every style Signia makes, where MaX comes in one. If budget is a real constraint, IX at a post-launch price is a genuinely strong buy, and we will say so. Our MaX versus IX comparison sets out where each one wins.

What the research says about paying more

This is uncomfortable for a practice that sells hearing aids, and we think you should hear it anyway. A 2025 study in JAMA Otolaryngology followed 245 adults and found no significant difference in outcomes between devices costing around $4,400 and around $1,100 when both were fitted properly. Humes and colleagues, publishing in the American Journal of Audiology in 2017, found the same thing — price had no measurable effect once the fitting was done well. What does show up consistently in the literature is verification. Programming to prescriptive targets and confirming it with real-ear measurement moves outcomes more reliably than moving up a price tier does. So if you are deciding between a top-tier device fitted quickly somewhere cheap and a mid-tier device fitted and verified carefully, the evidence favours the second.

Insurance, HSA and financing

Some plans contribute to hearing aids and many do not; California has no general private-insurance mandate for adult hearing aids. We check your benefits before you commit rather than after, and we handle the paperwork where a plan does contribute. Hearing aids are an eligible medical expense for HSA and FSA funds, and in many cases they are tax-deductible as a medical expense. We also offer financing so the cost can be spread rather than paid at once. If you have been told your plan covers nothing, it is worth reading our page on why hearing aids are so often not covered before accepting it.

Bring us a quote

If someone has already quoted you on Signia MaX, bring it in. Our free second opinion is exactly this: we read the quote line by line, tell you what the device actually is, what tier it is, what care is bundled and what is not, and whether the price is reasonable for what is in it. There is no obligation and no charge, and we will tell you if the quote you have is a good one. Call 650-342-9449 or request an appointment.

Frequently asked questions

What patients often want to know

Why won't you tell me what Signia MaX costs?

Because Signia has not published US pricing and has not announced the technology tiers, so any number we gave you would be a guess we would have to correct later. Once we can quote a figure we can stand behind, it goes on this page. In the meantime, call 650-342-9449 and we will tell you exactly where things stand.

Is Signia MaX more expensive than Signia IX?

A new flagship almost always launches above the platform it replaces, and outgoing platforms usually get cheaper as stock clears — so the gap is likely to be real. Neither figure is published yet. If budget matters, IX is worth a serious look rather than a consolation prize.

Does insurance cover Signia MaX?

Coverage depends on your specific plan rather than on the device. Some plans contribute a fixed allowance, many contribute nothing, and California does not mandate adult hearing aid coverage for private insurance. We verify your benefits before you commit.

Can I use HSA or FSA funds?

Yes. Hearing aids are an eligible medical expense for both, and the accessories and batteries generally are too. Many patients also find the cost deductible as a medical expense — see our page on whether hearing aids are tax-deductible.

Is the top technology level worth it?

Sometimes. The higher tiers buy more capability in complex, shifting environments — a busy restaurant, a large family gathering — and comparatively little in quiet one-to-one conversation. If most of your difficult listening happens in a quiet home, a mid-tier device fitted and verified well is often the better value. That is a clinical judgement we make with you, not a sales ladder.
