Omega AI is the stronger device on paper and the only one of the two with independent test data behind it. Where Edge AI holds up is in the hands of somebody already wearing a pair that was fitted properly. Reviewers who have compared the two describe the improvement as noticeable rather than dramatic, and that is a reasonable argument against replacing hearing aids that are working.
Edge AI runs on Starkey's G2 processor with integrated neural processing, which reads the room and adjusts as conditions change, so you are not reaching for a setting in the middle of a conversation. It is rechargeable, and select rechargeable models resist water and sweat.
We fit and service both platforms at our San Mateo and San Carlos offices. What follows is what changed with Omega AI, what did not, and how we would decide with you.

Starkey's flagship is now Omega AI
Starkey released Omega AI on 9 October 2025. It runs the G3 Gen AI Neuro Processor in place of Edge AI's G2, and it points its neural network at directionality through a system Starkey calls DNN 360, which decides moment to moment which direction deserves your attention. It comes in three technology levels: 24, 20 and 16. Starkey's health sensing carries forward and grows, with fall detection, balance assessment and a resting respiratory-rate reading. If you want the current Starkey platform, Omega AI is it, and we fit it at both offices.
What independent testing found
Read this before you weigh any manufacturer claim. HearAdvisor, the laboratory whose standardised measurements come closest to a neutral referee in this industry, gives Starkey Omega AI a grade of A and ranks it second among the thirty-six prescription hearing aids it has tested. That is a strong result from a party with no commercial interest in the outcome. We are deliberately not printing its individual sub-scores here, because the figures we retrieved from different sources disagreed with each other enough that we do not trust them. The grade and the ranking were consistent, so those are what we cite. We will show you the current numbers on screen at your appointment rather than publish something we cannot stand behind.
Styles and batteries, where Omega AI pulls furthest ahead
Omega AI has the widest style range of any current flagship we fit. Beyond the receiver-in-canal form, it comes as a custom in-the-ear, in-the-canal and completely-in-canal device, and on a size 312 disposable battery. For a lot of the people we see, that matters more than a chip generation. If a charger does not suit your routine, if you would rather change a battery, or if you want something that sits entirely inside your ear, Omega AI can do it. Several competing 2026 flagships cannot.
Connectivity
Omega AI ships with Bluetooth LE Audio and Auracast working now rather than pending a firmware update, which is more than several rival platforms can say this year. Edge AI connects to your phone for streaming and adjustments through the My Starkey app, and we set up pairing during your visit either way. If broadcast audio at a particular venue is the reason you are shopping, tell us which venue and we will find out what it actually broadcasts before you choose a platform.
A caution about the buttons on Omega AI
The buttons on Omega AI are small and stiff, and reviewers have flagged this as a problem for anyone with arthritis or reduced dexterity. That describes a large share of our patients, so we raise it before the sale rather than after. It is workable, since the app and the automatic programs mean most wearers press the buttons rarely. It is also something to test with your own hands at the appointment.
If you already wear Edge AI
Our advice is usually to keep them and have them checked. A verified Edge AI fitting will serve you better than an unverified newer device, and that is not a close call. Book an annual review, bring the aids in for cleaning and receiver checks, and if your hearing has shifted we re-verify against your current audiogram. Our in-house repair and service handles most problems without sending anything away. If your Edge AI hearing aids have never had real-ear verification, that is the appointment to make, not a purchase.
Why the fitting outweighs the platform
There is a published measurement that makes this case better than we can. HearAdvisor tested Phonak's Sphere Infinio Ultra at the manufacturer's own initial-fit settings and scored it 3.1 out of 5 for speech in noise. Tuned properly, the same device on the same bench scored 5.0. The average across all thirty-six devices tested is 1.96. One hearing aid, two numbers, and the only variable was whether somebody did the work of adjusting it. Real-ear measurement is how the second number is reached: a thin probe microphone in your canal, measuring what the aid delivers at your eardrum against your prescription, adjusted until the two match across pitches. We do this at every fitting, on every brand.
